Tom Cain, a man of many talents and a profound love for life, was born on May 7, 1937, in Darlington, Indiana. His life journey, which ended on July 11, 2023, was a tale of dedication, passion, and love for family.

His early life in Darlington was deeply rooted were in family, farming, schooling and sports. Gravitating towards service, he joined the National Guard in 1955, where he served until 1963. Throughout his life, he treasured time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as his parents, Paul and Velera, and 11 siblings and their spouses, Pat and Stan, Larry and Joy, Judy and Don, Jerry and Sydney, Dan and Sharol, Kenny and Marlene, Candy, Mary and Bob, Terry and Amy, Debbie and Dan and Jack and Karen. In addition, Tom cared deeply for his parents-in-law, Raymond and Inell Anderson, sister and brother in-law Katherine and Charles Scott and sons-in-law, Marcus Chang and Jon Frazier, as well as a large extended family and many good friends.

During his high school years, he found love. Tom married Betty Anderson in 1956, a union that brought immense joy and three children into his life: Thomas Randall in 1957, Catherine Anne in 1959, and Lisa Susanne in 1960. The arrivals of his grandsons, Jordan Frazier in 1990, and Evan and Alexander Chang in 1999, were milestone moments that filled his later life with joy. In his retirement years, Tom was able to spend time with his grandsons and rarely missed a soccer or baseball game.

Parallel to his family life, Paul excelled in his professional ventures. When he and Betty moved to California, he worked at Lockheed from 1956 until 1962. His passion for precision metal fabrication didn’t stop there. In 1962, he worked for, and later he and Betty purchased, Tech Graphic Inc., which he ran successfully until his retirement in 2002.

Beyond his professional commitments, Paul had a deep interest in rock and mineral collecting, a hobby he pursued with enthusiasm. His love for nature led him to become an active member of the Desamounts, an environmental advocacy and preservation group. He had a passion for traveling in their motorhome with Betty, as well as with family and friends. Tom and Betty traveled extensively throughout the western United States, absorbing its diverse landscapes and cultures. They shared a special love for the area in and around Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Concurrent with this work at Tech Graphic, he served as a Little League coach, Scoutmaster, and Toastmaster. Tom also dedicated considerable time and effort volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, as well as helping friends and family with scores of projects.

Paul’s life was a testament to his dedication, hard work and love for family. His journey, though it came to a peaceful end, continues to inspire those he left behind. His talents, quiet perceptive manner and deep kindness will be truly missed.
