Other Crawfordsville harriers placing were Hutton Haas sixth, 18:46, Max Brumett eighth, 19:14, Jantzen Thayer ninth, 19:24; Cole Capper 17th, 20:38; Alex Sanchez 18th, 21:03; and Colten Custer 22nd, 21:18.

First-year coach Jared McMurry was pleased with the way his teams competed in their first event of the season.

“The girls all ran great times, with Katherine Novak leading the way,” McMurry said. “I’m proud of her effort and grit to get an early season title.”

“This team (boys) has goals to win championships, but in a sport like cross country, you can compete hard, run fast, and leave it all out there and still come up short, and that’s what we did on Saturday,” McMurry added. “I am proud of both teams.”
