Ronald E. Harsh, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Crawfordsville on Thursday morning, Oct. 3, 2024, at the age of 77.

Ron served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy before embarking on a career with TWA and U.S. Airlines as a baggage handler and ticket agent. His work allowed him to travel extensively with his family, creating cherished memories across Florida, Virginia, Asheville, Myrtle Beach, and the Black Hills.

A true handyman at heart, Ron found joy in remodeling and fixing things around the house. He turned his passion into a service for those in need, demonstrating his generous spirit and kind soul through his handyman business. He loved fishing and boating, but above all, he treasured the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Family vacations were a highlight of his life, filled with laughter and love.

Born Sept. 14, 1947, at Indianapolis, Ron was the son of Robert and Thelma Harsh. He graduated from Ben Davis High School and married the love of his life, Shirley Sutherlin, on June 19, 1988. Together, they built a life filled with adventure and affection.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; father Robert Harsh; daughter Heather Harsh; step-son Jason Wells; step-daughter Marvina Steiner; sister Roberta DeBolt; and eight grandchildren, Marlena, Richelle, Kierra, Natasha, Morgan, Jaye, Ava and Abbie. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, Gavin, Jocelyn, Graydon, Khaliel, Kainen, Havana and Oliver.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Harsh.

A celebration of Ron’s life is being planned, with details to be announced shortly. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.
