FC loses to S. Vermillion

Fountain Central lost at home 55-24 to undefeated and Wabash River Conference foe South Vermillion.

The Mustangs were behind 35-14 at the half and could not stop the Wildcat passing game.

South Vermillion quarterback Dom Garzoline threw for 301 yards and six touchdowns.

Fountain Central (3-4) plays at North Vermillion (6-1) on Friday.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Teams run Twilight Invite

Montgomery County cross country teams participated in the Nike XC Town Twilight Invitational at Terre Haute. The course was at the LaVerne Gibson Championship Course which will be the site of NCAA D1 Cross Country Championship in 2025. The course has previously held five other D1 national championships.

The two-day event included 4,286 athletes including collegiate runners in 12 different races. A total of 15 states were represented including many states from  California to Pennsylvania. There were several national record holders running.

Crawfordsville participated in the multi-state event on Friday in the 5K Open Red race. Southmont and North Montgomery ran in the 5K Open Blue race on Saturday.  Both races were at night under lights.

The Crawfordsville boys’ team placed 11th out of 25 teams in the Red Open race. The race included 281 athletes. The Athenians were led by Josh Inskeep who placed 43rd with a time of 17:40. Hutton Haas finished in 18:13 good for 72nd place. Max Brummett placed 78th in 18:18.

The Southmont boys’ team placed 16th out of 47 teams in the Blue Open race. The Mounties were led by Vince Reimondo who completed the race in 17:53 out of 399 runners.

North Montgomery was led by Jack Rogers who ran the course in 17:45, which placed him 49th out of 299 runners. The Chargers placed 26th as a team.

The Crawfordsville girls’ team competed against 16 teams with 165 runners Friday.

Athenian Katherine Novak finished in 22nd with a time of 21:15. Remy Swinford completed the course in 23:02 for 60th place. Finishing in 75th was Caroline Novak in 23:30. 

Southmont and North Montgomery girls’ teams competed against 475 runners.

Darby Cottrell finished 171st with a time of 22:26.

North Montgomery was led by Kathelyn Woolwine who ran a 23:43:12 good for 228th place. Sarah Hopper finished in 229th place with a time of 23:43:35.
