CARMEL — Since Addison Meadows was in middle school, she has dreamed about finishing in Top 10 at the Indiana High School Athletic Association Girls Golf State Finals.

Now, after four consecutive trips to the state match, her dream is a reality. Meadows tied for ninth place Saturday at Carmel.

The two-day match consists of 18 holes each day. Meadows was consistent both days. After firing a 4-over-par round on Friday, which placed her in 10th place, she duplicated the score Saturday. When all players were off the course, she knew she had a good shot of being in the Top 10.

Meadows finished the second round tied for 10th place with three other girls. Two of those girls were still on the course, which caused much nervousness among the Southmont contingent. Finally, after checking the scores online for nearly one hour, Meadows knew she was headed to the championship podium.

“While waiting for everyone to finish, I was nervous because it was my last ever high school golf tournament,” Meadows said.

There were anxious moments during Saturday’s round for Meadows. She started play on the front nine, which normally is her strong suit, but had four bogies. Historically she has had trouble with the 10th and 11th holes so that was facing her as she started on the back nine.

Meadows was able to shoot par on both the 10th and 11th round. In fact, at one point she shot par on 12 straight holes.

Southmont coaches Bill Whalen and Dave Williamson were right beside Addison on both days. Williamson was the coach who walked the course with Meadows and took the roll as adviser since he had played there many times.

“Addison was phenomenal off the tee and putting,” Whalen said. “The greens were big and quick, and she handled them all tournament.”

Meadows, who earned her fourth all-state award in four years, realized her career has been excellent and she is extremely pleased to be considered one of the best in Montgomery County for four straight years.

“I put in extra work this year because I really wanted to make the podium,” Meadows said. “Being the first from Southmont to reach that goal puts a smile on my face. It’s one thing to say you made it to state, but it is another thing to say you got Top 10.”

Whalen said his star golfer is worthy of her placement in the state tournament.

“She has put in the work and deserves all the success she has received,” Whalen said.

“It is rewarding to make the Top 10, but I am not finished yet with college around the corner,” Meadows said.

After graduation, Meadows intends to play golf for Indiana Wesleyan University.

However, she isn’t putting her clubs up just yet. Meadows will play Saturday in open tournament.
