Crawfordsville loses to Tiger Cubs

Crawfordsville girls’ soccer was defeated 2-0 on Monday by Greencastle.

The Athenians travel to Sagamore Conference foe Frankfort on Thursday.

 

GOLF

Mounties split 3-way meet

Southmont split a three-way meet Monday at Cool Lake Golf Course. Western Boone was the top team with a 174. The Mounties shot a 174 and Lebanon had an incomplete team.

Addison Meadows was co-medalist with a score of 39.

Other Southmont scores were Kelsey Thompson and Addison Kendrick, both shooting a 48. Katie Myers and Maggie Gilliland each shot 52.

Next for Southmont is a home meet Thursday against future Monon Athletic Conference opponents Cascade and Greencastle.

 

North keeps looking for improvement

North Montgomery participated Saturday in an invitational and shot a 462.

Mallory Inskeep was the top Charger with a score of 96.

“We have a clear focus on areas that need work,” Charger coach Bob Ryker said. “We will use this as a learning experience and come back stronger.”

North’s meet on Monday was canceled due to heat. The team is scheduled to take on Clinton Prairie today at Deer Track Golf Course.

 

FC competes
at Rockville

Fountain Central’s girls’ golf team is still one member short of having a complete team, but their players continue to improve.

On Monday, the Mustangs competed against Parke Heritage, Covington and North Central.

Bella Bacon and Rya Jackson both shot personal bests. Bacon led the team with a 51 and Jackson shot a 52. Autumn Payne carded a 57.

The Mustangs were scheduled to take on South Vermillion and Covington at Clinton on Tuesday.

 

TENNIS

Mustangs blank Mounties

It was hot Monday, but that did not stop the Fountain Central tennis team. The Mustangs defeated Southmont 5-0.

Fountain Central’s No. 1 singles player, Gabe McCullum defeated Southmont’s Gavin Downey 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles Mustang Skyler Hoagland beat Caden Allen 6-0, 6-0. Mustang Ayden Batchelor defeated Alex Garcia 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3 Singles.

At No. 1 doubles the Mustang team of Levi McTagertt and Levi Miller defeated Owen McCutcheon and Dean McGaughey 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

At No. 2 Doubles Mustangs William Armstrong and Jose Duarte-Grajales defeated Eden Hernandez and Mike Harden 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.

Fountain Central’s Tuesday match at North Montgomery has been postponed to Sept. 9.

The Mustangs host Benton Central on Thursday.

Southmont traveled to Western Boone on Tuesday and will host South Vermillion on Thursday.

 

Crawfordsville sweeps Bison

Crawfordsville’s tennis team had to wait a few hours Monday for cooler temperatures to play Benton Central. The Athenians responded by sweeping the Bison 5-0.

Athenian No. 1 singles Wyatt Motz defeated Landon Hardebeck 6-1, 6-2 and No. 2 singles Rowan Gambrel beat Bennett Semesac 6-1, 6-0.

Crawfordsville No. 3 singles Jude Coursey defeated Bison Lake Buchanon 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles action Athenians Jude Hutchison and Henry Bannon won 6-2, 6-2 and Nolan Watt along with Ian Hurt defeated Drew Brown and Brody Cox 6-0, 6-1.

“After the delay and not starting until 7 p.m., I was proud of the way we approached the match,” Athenian Coach Craig Brainard said. “We stayed focus and were ready to go”

Crawfordsville traveled to Parke Heritage Tuesday.

 

VOLLEYBALL

North wins at Traders Point

North Montgomery traveled to Zionsville to play Traders Point Christian. The Chargers came home with a 3-0 victory 25-16, 25-16, 25-8.

Chargers Piper Ramey recorded nine aces and Kaydence Young had seven aces.

Hope Delp had eight kills.

“It was a good win for us,” Coach Taylor Pierce said. “This will help us get ready for conference play. The girls had to be disciplined and were able to put several good plays together.”

North Montgomery played Frankfort on Tuesday and will travel to Danville on Thursday.

 

Mounties beat North Putnam

Southmont defeated North Putnam 3-1 on Monday. After dropping the first game, the Mounties reeled off three straight victories.

Set scores were 24-26, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-15.

Mounties Ella Barry had 10 kills and
Catie Himes added nine kills and 14 digs. Himes also led Southmont with six aces.

Layla Gomez had four blocks.

Southmont traveled to Greencastle Tuesday and will host Covington on Thursday.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

South competes at invitational

On Saturday, Southmont traveled to Shelbyville to participate at the River Cross Country Course Small School Invitational.

The Mountie boys placed fourth out of 27 teams. Vince Reimondo ran the course in 17:47 to finish seventh. Ethan Keck finished 15th with a time of 18:36.

“Vince continues to show his abilities as he adapts to 5K and Ethan is on a streak of getting personal records every meet,” Coach Shelley Allen said. “I am proud of all the boys as they worked together to place fourth.”

Darby Cottrell was the top Mountie girl. The junior finished 26th with a time of 24:21.

“The entire team is working hard and pushing each other beyond what they ever thought possible,” Allen said.
