VOLLEYBALL

Mustangs defeat Delphi

Fountain Central had its first away game at Delphi and came home a 3-2 winner on Thursday.

Scores were 25-11, 21-25, 25-14, 18-25, 15-9.

The team was led by seniors Rylee Simko and Jamie Harshbarger.

The Mustangs are now 3-1 on the season and will play Saturday in the Faith Christian Invite.

 

Chargers lose to Clinton Prairie

North Montgomery volleyball dropped a hard fought match at home to Clinton Prairie on Thursday.

The Chargers lost in five sets after winning the first two sets 25-17, 25-10. Clinton Prairie won the third set 25-23 and fourth set 25-23. The Gophers won the match with a deciding 15-13 score.

North was led by Piper Ramey’s eight aces, 41 assists and 13 digs. Macee Norman recorded four blocks and Kaydence Young had 13 kills.

Charger Hope Delp served 15 straight points in the second game.

North Montgomery coach Taylor Pierce liked what she saw in her team’s effort.

“There was much improvement as a team from our first match”, Pierce said. “Our next goal is to finish games with the same energy we go into them.”

North Montgomery (0-2) will play Saturday in the North Putnam Early Bird Invite.

 

Southmont loses SAC contest to Frankfort

Southmont lost Thursday to Sagamore Conference foe Frankfort in straight sets 16-25, 24-26, 22-25.

For the Mounties, Ella Barry recorded 15 kills and Catie Himes had nine digs and four aces. Mallory Mason had 23 assists.

Southmont will participate Saturday in the North Putnam Early Bird Invitational.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Chargers place at Seeger

North Montgomery participated in the Seeger Invite at Hanging Rock Christian Assembly in West Lebanon. The meet is unique because it is a Hokum Karem. The freshman and sophomores run a 3K and the junior and seniors run a 4K. The top two finishers from each school in each race is used to score the event.

The Charger girls’ team placed third. In the 3K, Sarah Hopper placed fifth and Kendra McClamroch was 13th. In the 4K, the Chargers were led by Katelyn Woolwine’s sixth place finish and Zoey McFarland who placed 15th.

“The girls ran exceptionally well and continue to improve their speed,” Charger Coach Tim Lueking said. “I am very proud of this team.”

The Charger boys’ team placed fourth. In the 3K, Connor Laws was ninth and Kellen Ireland was 21st. In the 4K, Jack Rogers earned a third-place finish and Nolan Yagar placed 10th.

“The boys continue to improve and I am excited to see their progress,” Lueking said.

Both Charger teams will participate Saturday in the Fountain Central Grand Prix.

 

Fountain Central runs at Seeger Invite

Fountain Central’s Lucas Kirkpatrick placed fourth in the Freshman/Sophomore 3K at the Seeger Invitational on Thursday.

Raley Akers finished in seventh place in the Junior/Senior 4K race.

The Mustangs host the FC Grand Prix on Saturday.

 

TENNIS

Chargers top Tri-West

North Montgomery (1-1) traveled to Tri-West for a Sagamore Conference match and won 5-0.

This is Tri-West’s first season to offer tennis. The Bruins are being coached by Charger graduate and former tennis coach Ric Walke.

The Chargers’ No. 1 singles player senior Beckett Martin defeated Eric Dean 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Charger senior Cade Cole won 6-0, 6-1 and No. 3 junior Dane Elliot won 6-0, 6-1.

North’s No. 1 doubles team of Carter Thompson and Austin Biddle defeated their Bruin counterparts 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Chargers’ No. 2 doubles team of Keaton Brown and Cayden Keller won 6-0, 6-2.

“We started out slow but put it together at the end,” Charger Coach Devan Plant said.

The Chargers will host Lafayette Central Catholic on Monday

 

Athenians topped by McCutcheon

Crawfordsville’s tennis team traveled to McCutcheon on Thursday and lost 2-3.

Athenian Rowan Gambrel won his No. 2 singles match over Nolan Grigsby 6-0, 6-0. Jude Coursey defeated Tim Fokine in the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0.

Crawfordsville’s No. 1 doubles team of Jude Hutchison and Henry Bannon lost a close match 5-7, 6-1, 3-6.

The Athenian’s No. 2 doubles team of Nolan Watt and Ian Hurt lost 4-6, 1-6.

Crawfordsville travels Monday to Benton Central.

 

GOLF

Mounties best South Putnam

Southmont’s golf team defeated South Putnam 202-250 on Thursday.

Southmont’s Addison Meadows was the medalist with a score of 41. Other Mountie scores were Addison Kendricks 51, Kelsey Thompson 53 and Kate Myers 57.

The Mounties will host their own invitational Saturday at the Crawfordsville Country Club. Tee time is 9 a.m.

 

Covington wins Bi-County

The Covington girls’ golf team won the two-day Bi-County Tournament at Harrison Hills on Thursday. The Trojan’s Sydney Crain was medalist with a score of 81.

Covington’s Allyah Dean placed second with a 101.

Finishing third was Attica’s Aubree Jones who shot a 103.

Fountain Central’s Autumn Payne tied for fourth with Attica’s Anni Reynolds with 105 each.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Southmont beats Stars

Southmont shut out Sagamore Conference foe Western Boone 4-0 on Thursday.

Mountie senior Jessica Hale scored three goals for the hat-trick. Sophomore Mollie Williams also scored for Southmont on an assist by Hale.

Southmont goalkeeper Makenzie Wood recorded her first shut out after having 21 saves against Faith Christan on Monday.

Mountie coach Angela Williams said her team is passing well with a 77 percent pass completion rating compared to last year’s high of 55 percent.

“We are working as a team and every position and every player is important,” Williams said.

The Mounties (2-0) host Monrovia on Saturday.
