John Thomas Foster of rural Crawfordsville went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, Sept. 9, 2024, at home, surrounded by family. He was 87.
Mr. Foster was a member of Woodland Heights Christian Church, where he served as an elder, was very active in the jail ministry, missions and enjoyed church activities. He loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He worked for many years as a machinist with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960, stationed on the U.S.S. Yosemite.
Born Dec. 2, 1936, at Crawfordsville, he was the son of Harold Bliss Foster and Dorothy Lane Foster. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School and attended college in Iowa. He married Carolyn Hudson on Dec. 30, 1956, at Crawfordsville.
Surviving family includes: wife Carolyn Foster of Crawfordsville; four children, Teresa Kaye (Charles) Kriston, John Timothy (Donna) Foster, Tamara Kim (Kevin) Bonebrake and Angela Dawn (Todd) Stamper; 15 grandchildren, Kerri, Tony, Chelsea, Lacey, Alex, Haley, Kodie, Kullen, Krish, Kiera, Kassidy, Brock, Brett, Breanna and Brooke; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave. Services will begin at 2 p.m., led by Pastor Steve Wilke. Burial with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery on Grant Avenue.
