Board OKs street closures

Members of the Crawfordsville Board of Works & Safety met Wednesday and approved various street closures related to upcoming special events.

The board approved a request from Deborah Kochert to close Pike Street at Pike Place on Sept. 21 for the 6th annual Celebration of Unity event sponsored by Humans United for Equality. The event takes place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The street closure will be in effect following the closing of the Farmers Market that day through 9 p.m. to allow for set up and tear down of the event.

The board also approved a request from Macy Simmons to close Pike Street at Pike Place from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 26 for the 3rd annual Rock Out Recovery event.

Fawn Johnson from the Park & Rec Department and Sue Lucas of Crawfordsville Main Street received approval from the board to close Pike Street at Pike Place from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 5 for Oktoberfest. The event takes place 3-9 p.m. that day.

Sara Clapp of the Youth Service Bureau was given approval to close streets near Milligan Park from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sept. 28 for the Suicide Prevention Walk that will take place at the park. Event organizers expect more than 200 participants.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a request from Price Excavating to close Franklin Street from Elm Street to Water Street for one day on Sept. 17.

• Approved a request from Barry Lewis, code enforcement officer, to have city crews mow at 1001-1007 Chapel Ave., owned by Dillin Newton; and continue to remove trash and debris as needed at 614 S. Washington St., owned by Ironclad Properties of Fishers.

• Agree to reset a hearing within 30 days related to an unsafe building order at 117 E. Market St., owned by Grow Properties of Fishers.
