John Edward Kirkpatrick, formerly of Waynetown, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at Chandler, Arizona. He had been ill for about six months due to an automobile accident.

He was the son of James Nolan Kirkpatrick and Elizabeth (Mullen) Kirkpatrick of Waynetown. John attended Waynetown High School until his junior year and then transferred to and graduated in 1956 from Crawfordsville High School.

During his CHS days he was a member of the Latin Club, Oratory, Music Club, Senior Honor Society, Music Council and Hoosier Boys State, a National Merit Scholarship Winner in Music 1956. He attended Interlochen National Music Camp for two years during the summer. He graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor of music degree in 1961.

He played the piano for The D-Lux 5 Band as well as several bands within Montgomery County before he left for California. While in California he played piano in bands and then was featured by himself in clubs within the Los Angeles area.

He married Beverly Schinlaub and after semi-retiring he and Beverly left California for Pocatello, Idaho and then on to Chandler, Arizona.

He is survived by sister-in-law Rita (Henthorn) Kirkpatrick of Crawfordsville, and two nephews, Jay Kirkpatrick (Leslie) their sons, Cahill and Cohan of Bronson, Iowa, and Nolan Kirkpatrick (Callie) and their son Luke of Waynetown and Seth and James of Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by Beverly; his parents; brother Lee Nolan Kirkpatrick; and great-nephew Christopher Kirkpatrick.

Music was his life and he will be remembered by many for his music.

John’s wishes were to be cremated and no services.
