Susan “Susie” Lynn Ramsay, 75, of Rockville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family and community.

Born Jan. 21, 1949, at Clinton, she was the beloved daughter of Earl and Dorothy (Schlimmer) Barker, both of whom preceded her in death. Susie was the cherished wife of Mark Ramsay for 54 years, whom she married on May 1, 1970.

A proud graduate of Turkey Run High School in 1966 and Indiana State University in 1970, Susie was a lifelong resident of Parke County, where her roots ran deep. She was an active and devoted member of the Russellville Community Church, where her involvement in the Ask ‘Em tutoring program showcased her enduring passion for helping others. Her kind and patient spirit made her a beloved figure both within the church and beyond.

While raising her children, Susie embraced the role of a dedicated housewife, pouring her heart into creating a loving and nurturing home. In 1992, she followed her calling to teach, inspiring young minds at Turkey Run and Waveland Elementary until her retirement in 2006. She touched countless lives with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the well-being of others.

Susie found joy in life’s simple pleasures — tending to her home and garden, the companionship of her pets, and above all, the company of her children and grandchildren. Their accomplishments and activities filled her with pride, and her love for them was boundless. Her family was her greatest treasure, and every moment spent with them was a source of deep happiness.

In addition to her devoted husband Mark, Susie is survived by daughter Marta Crowe (Tony) of Lafayette; and sons, Kirt Ramsay (Carmen) of Rockville, Scott Ramsay (Ashli) of Rockville and Brad Ramsay (Angie) of Republic, Missouri. She was the beloved grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Haley (Sam), Kassidy (Kalani), Brittney, Shelby, Zachary and Audrey Crowe of Lafayette; Grace Ramsay of Rockville; Sutton, Raegan and Addison Ramsay of Rockville; and William, Cohen, Isaac and Violet Ramsay of Missouri. She also leaves behind great-grandson Koa Washington of Lafayette.

Susie’s legacy is one of love, selflessness, and the compassion she offered to all who knew her. She will be remembered for the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the love she so freely gave. She leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Funeral dervices will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at Russellville Community Church 103 Third St., Russellville, with Pastor Kelly Nichols and Pastor Kathi Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Portland Mills Cemetery in Rockville. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 and for one hour prior to the service on Monday also at the church.
