Carolyne L. Smith of Crawfordsville passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 11, 2024, at Bickford of Crawfordsville, at the age of 86.
Carolyne loved music, reading, and her family. She was a founding member of Woodland Heights Christian Church and worked as the church secretary for many years. After leaving her position at WHCC she did administrative work at Fleetwood.
Born Oct. 19, 1937, at Kingman, she was the daughter of Fred Hughes and Lela Lawson Hughes. She graduated from Waveland High School and Indiana Business College.
Surviving family includes: daughter Laura Eckart (Bob) of Greenwood, Indiana; son James Christopher Mitchell of Crawfordsville; son-in-law Darrell Wiatt of Russellville; eight grandchildren, Adrienne Eckart, Jeremy Eckart, Tyler Eckart (Shannon), Darren Wiatt (Renee), Darrick Wiatt (Lauren), Mallory Eckart, Ben Wiatt (Kayla) and Bethany Bryan (Grant),: 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Cindy Wiatt. Carolyne was the youngest of seven and all six of her older siblings preceded her in death, along with a few of her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept, 17 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave. Services will begin at 1 p.m. After the service, she will be laid to rest at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery.
