North loses in shoot-out

North Montgomery lost to Sagamore rival Western Boone in a penalty kick shoot-out on Saturday.

The Chargers led most of the game until the Stars scored with six minutes remaining in the game at Dover.

The game was knotted 1-1 at the end of regulation. Neither team could find the back of the net in overtime sending the game to the penalty shoot-out.

Charger Ava Nunan scored for North Montgomery with an assist from Sophia Shea.

North Montgomery coach Julie Hodges said the game was a heartbreaker, but she was proud of her team’s effort.

“We put together a complete game and the girls did everything that we asked of them,” Hodges said. “A penalty shoot-out is always a toss-up and WeBo came out on top. Despite the loss the improvement, effort and grit made us a better team.”

The Chargers (1-3)  travel to Southmont today and will go to Twin Lakes on Thursday.

Chargers fall to WeBo

North Montgomery traveled to Western Boone on Saturday and lost a hard-fought game in overtime to the Stars by a score of 4-3.

Charger sophomore Tommy Varney scored one goal and added two assists.

Freshman Sam Woolwine scored two goals giving him four this season.

“I am proud of the guys for creating opportunities all game long,” Charger coach Tristain Hall said. “Unfortunately, we could not finish the game in overtime. We have things to work on, but I feel we have just scratched the surface of what this team is capable of.”

North Montgomery (0-4) will head to Southmont today for a big conference and County Chase game.
