FC downs S. Vermillion

Fountain Central continued its hot streak with a home victory over Wabash River Conference opponent South Vermillion 5-0 on Thursday.

All matches were two-game sweeps.

Mustang No. 1 singles Gabe McCollum defeated Walt Beardsley 6-0, 6-1 and the No. 2 singles Skyler Hoagland beat Cael Buddle 6-0, 6-0. Ayden Batchelor beat Wildcat Coleman Raice 6-0, 6-0.

The Mustang doubles teams also continued their recent success.

FC’s No. 1 doubles team of Levi McTagertt and Levi Miller beat Landon Downs and Aidan Lacey 6-3, 6-1. Mustangs No. 2 doubles team of William Armstrong and Jose Duarte-Grajales beat Blake Buckingham and Nate Eltringham 6-1, 6-1.

Fountain Central improves to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in the WRC.

Chargers get first win

North Montgomery boys’ soccer team defeated Rossville on Wednesday 6-5.

North was behind 2-0 early in the game but came roaring back to earn the victory.

Braydon Osborne scored five goals for the Chargers and Kevin Toledano scored one goal. Assists were provided by Tommy Varney, Joseph Padron and Toledano.

“I am very pleased with the guys for fighting back from an early deficit,” Charger coach Tristain Hall said. “The score was closer than we would have liked, but the guys showed resiliency and battled the whole game.”

North Montgomery has a few starters out with injuries but had good defensive performances from the new starters.

“Ben Oppy and Chris Jara did a great job stepping in and played major roles defensively,” Hall said.

The win was the first victory of the year for the Chargers who now stand 1-5.

North Montgomery hosted North Putnam on Thursday and will be at Danville on Saturday.

 

COLLEGE SOCCER

Wabash remains undefeated

Wabash College remained undefeated and held Anderson University scoreless with a 3-0 shutout win Wednesday on the road at Fridley Field. The 5-0 start by the Little Giants is the best since opening the 2015 season with an 8-0 record.

Wabash travels to Dayton, Ohio on Saturday to take on Dayton University, an NCAA Division 1 opponent.
