Legend of Sleepy Hollow haunts the Vanity Theater

Prepare for a thrilling and spooky adventure as “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” comes to life at the Vanity Theater, running today through Sunday and Oct. 11-13.

Directed by Nate Baldwin and Brian Swick, and produced by Melanie Baldwin, this haunting production at the downtown community theater brings Washington Irving’s classic tale of suspense and mystery to the stage just in time for the Halloween season.

The story follows Ichabod Crane, a schoolteacher with a fascination for the supernatural, as he arrives in the eerie town of Sleepy Hollow. There, he becomes entangled in a love triangle with Katrina Van Tassel and Brom Bones, all while the ominous legend of the Headless Horseman looms large. The tale weaves romance, humor, and a touch of terror, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats.

“My favorite thing about this show is bringing spooky season to life,” said Josh Hampton, who portrays the boisterous Brom Bones.

Shaeleigh Hreskowsky, who plays the lively character of Grishilda, added, “I love being able to be dramatic while also bringing a bit of humor to the stage.”

Vanity veteran Annee Clark takes on the role of Katrina Van Tassel.

“I love playing Katrina, as she is a fun and spirited, strong-willed character who won’t accept less than she deserves from anybody,” Van Tassel said. “The directors and cast have been wonderful to work alongside as we piece together this eerie and melancholy story that will leave you wondering — is Sleepy Hollow truly haunted by a malevolent spirit hell-bent on revenge, or were the monsters really the people all along?”

The cast also features Vanity Stage newcomer Rebecca Lester.

“I love this opportunity to be on stage with so many great people,” she said.

Landon Birge, who plays Ichabod Crane, added, “My favorite thing is working with this great cast.”

This production is being sponsored by Nostalgic Productions.
