Members of the Crawfordsville Common Council approved two requests for tax abatements Monday.

The first was a five-year personal property tax abatement and Economic Revitalization Area designation for Kroger Limited Partnership II dba Pace Dairy. The company estimated the total costs for improvements to be $5 million.

The abatement will allow for the company to improve their production by installing two new lines with new machinery and equipment. The improvements will increase production levels for shredded cheese.

The agreement states that this upgrade to Pace Dairy facilities will make it possible to retain the current employment rate and salaries, keeping 263 people employed.

Pace Dairy expects to begin this project at the end of the year with completion by the end of June 2025.

The second request for tax abatement and an ERA designation was for Midwest Bale Ties for $481,019. The company plans to install an automated machine that will require little human interaction to function.

Midwest Bale Ties stated in their request that the improvements would retain all employed currently and has the potential to create a new position. It is a short project, the company plans to begin in November and finish by the end of the year.

The council also approved salary increases for city employees along with the mayor, clerk-treasurer and council members, these raises will take affect in 2025.
