NEW MARKET — Southmont’s offense sputtered the entire game against Lebanon on Friday. The Tigers shutout the Mounties by a score of 35-0.
Southmont could only muster a total of 133 total yards against the Lebanon. Meanwhile, the Tigers amassed 442 total yard including 327 through the air.
Southmont coach Desson Hannum complimented the Lebanon defense.
“Lebanon is a good team and they have good quickness and size,” Hannum said. “We had a hard time moving the ball all night. I thought we had some opportunities but could not capitalize when we had the chance.”
Despite the final score, the first half was a dogfight. The Mounties only trailed 7-0 until the last few minutes of the second quarter. A late score meant the Tigers took a 14-0 lead into the halftime locker room.
“We gave up that late touchdown in the second quarter, but I really thought we played well in the first half,” Hannum said. “Despite what the final score is, I thought at times we play some really good football.”
While Lebanon senior quarterback Jackson Folden was completing 14-0f-24 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns. Tiger speedster Kaden Lark caught eight passes for 122 yard and once score.
The Tiger defense shut down Southmont. Mountie signal caller Heath Tolliver completed just 4-of-10 passes for 11 yards. Mountie Avery Stadler did accumulate 48 rushing yards out of Southmont’s 122 total. Mountie Cale Chadd contributed 115 yards on kick returns, 10 yards rushing and five reception yards giving him 130 all-purpose yards.
Southmont (3-5, 2-4 SAC) travels to Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Tri-West Friday for a 7 p.m. game to conclude their final season in the SAC. Lebanon (6-2, 5-1 SAC), winners of five straight games, will host SAC and Boone County foe Western Boone at
7 p.m. Friday.
