Posted

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety met Wednesday and approved plans presented by Nicholson Elementary administrators for their annual Bike & Hike event Sept. 26.

Participants will leave from the Crawfordsville District Public Library parking lot at 5 p.m., travel along West Main and end at the school where they will be planned family activities.

Crawfordsville police will attend the event and assist with traffic control along the route, including stopping traffic on West Market so participants can safely cross as they head to the school. The city street department also will assist with providing barricades.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a request by Street Commissioner Mark Cox to purchase an Extreme Leaf Vac for $15,000 from the town of Darlington.

• Approved a request by Kelly Price to reserve a parking spot in front of Fusion 54 in the 100 block of West Main Street from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 25  for the American Red Cross Blood Van.

The board also approved a second request from Price to close Pike Street at Pike Place from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 25 for the Montgomery County Day of Service. Volunteers will gather there for breakfast and listen to remarks from Mayor Todd Barton before beginning their community service projects.

• Approved work order requests for mowing at 1000 E. Market St., owned by GS Investment Property Inc., and 201 McCormick Drive, owned by Brandon and Nicole Spivey.
