Victors emerge at Indiana State Dirt Championship

Posted

One Indiana State Dirt Championship in a career is an earned feat.

How about three in one night? How about two different kart drivers?

Paris, Illinois hotshoe Buddy Wilson and Morocco’s Nathan Lynch both pulled off the triple Saturday evening at Ben Hur Speedway.

Wilson took the titles in Clone Heavy, Flathead Heavy and Clone Super Heavy kart classes during the 40th edition of the event. Lynch won his titles in the Small Block Open and LO206. The latter also captured the Shooky Shootout, which is not an actual state race class, but was run as a rain date from July.

Lynch also was runner up to Wilson in two of the classes, including finishing just .059 seconds behind in Flathead Heavy.

Other winners were Juan Grino (Run What Ya Brung), Blake Williams (Junior 1), Brandon Miller (Predator), Rob Bowers (Clone Sumo), Logan Fowler (Junior 2), Jaylen Butler (Clone Light), Chance Lucas (Junior 3) and Kyle Phelps (Clone Medium).

A total of 125 entries in 14 classes hit the lightning fast third-mile dirt oval. Wilson clocked a lap at over 64 miles per hour in his first win of the night, the ultra competitive Clone Heavy. An ISDC high 18 karts took the green flag for that main event, tied for highest number of entries with the Shooky Shootout class.

Ben Hur Speedway is back in action Sept. 21 with a regular points race.
