Robert E. Minnick, 89, of Waynetown passed away at 7:28 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in his home, surrounded by family, following a lengthy illness.

Bob was born Sept. 1, 1934, at Wallace, son of the late Clarence and Mae Henson Minnick. He married Marilyn Gill Vail on Aug. 30, 1974, at Crawfordsville. She survives.

Bob was raised in the Wallace and Hillsboro area and was a graduate of Hillsboro High School. Bob served with the Army from 1957-1962 with the 501st Infantry Regiment/101st Airborne where he earned his “Parachutist Badge.” Following his honorable discharge he was employed with RR Donnelley & Sons until his retirement. He and Marilyn moved to Waynetown in 2015 from Hillsboro.

Bob was an equestrian and for many years bred, raised and showed Quarter Horses. He was a former member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and a life member of the American Quarter Horse Assn. He enjoyed gardening, attending auctions and making hay with his son Brad.

Bob was very patriotic and proud of his military service which led to him being involved with the Fountain War Museum. He was an easy-going, mild-mannered gentleman who never swore or cared to argue. As a loyal friend, he seldom missed the visitation or funeral of someone he knew.

Surviving, along with his wife Marilyn, are daughters, Cathy (Tom) Kruse of New Richmond and Kim (Dan) Sowers of Veedersburg; twin children, Brad (Tracie) Minnick of Veedersburg and Brooky Grubbs (Brian Angus) of Wingate; grandchildren, Kristi, Joni, Corey, Ross, Blaise, Brody, Abram, Meagan, Ciara, Amanda and Jayson; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. A special brother-in-law John Wilson of Crawfordsville and many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Bill, Eleanor and Barbara.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 29 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Military honors will be provided at 7 p.m. by the Army and Byron Cox American Legion Post #72. Private interment in Rockfield Cemetery.  Memorial contributions are preferred to Fountain County War Museum in Veedersburg.
