Gail L. (Young) Cantrell of Fort Myers passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2024. 

She was born Sept. 7, 1956, at Lafayette, to John and Betty Young. 

Gail was a 1974 graduate of Delphi Community High School. On May 28, 1986, she married David E. Cantrell in Saint Thomas, and he survives.

Gail worked at Fairfield Manufacturing and Chemtura Corporation in customer service roles.

Surviving, along with her husband, are parents John and Betty Young of Lafayette; siblings, Greg Young of Monticello, Gwen (Don) Shoemaker of Sussex, Wisconsin and Gina Whelan of Fishers; nephews and nieces, Nick (Liz) Young, Troy (Grace) Shoemaker, Sarah (Dave) Rice, Kaitlin (John) Beyer, Krista Whelan, J.B. Whelan, Stephanie (Todd) Lemke and Stephen (Jennifer) Cantrell; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Logan and Ruby Shoemaker, Audrey and Cole Rice, Violet Beyer, Kyle and Max Lemke, Ella Cantrell and Grace Vaughn. 

Gail treated her nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces like her own children. Gail cherished spending time with her family. She is also survived by her beloved dog, K.K.

Gail was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; father-in-law and mother-in-law Frederick and Martha Cantrell; brothers-in-law, James F. and Michael D. Cantrell; nephew James D. Cantrell; and niece Beth Ann Shoemaker.

Gail was an avid Purdue sports fan, never missing a game. She enjoyed her travels to Mexico and the Caribbean. 

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 31 at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 829 N. Ninth St., Lafayette, with th e funeral service beginning at noon. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville at 2 p.m.
