High Stepping

Crawfordsville band debuts new, modern style

Crawfordsville’s Marching Band was high stepping Friday debuting their new uniforms. The band took two years to raise the money and band members and director Jon Tebbe were excited to show off their new royal blue and black uniforms.

“I don’t know if I have ever seen the kids more excited about a football game,” Tebbe said. “I am stoked because I think the uniforms are sharp.”

The cost for 85 uniforms was $50,000 and they were designed and made through Stansbury, a well-known manufacturer of high school and college bands. The company offered some extra features that Tebbe said will made the life of the uniforms last longer.

“We have some extras that will help us have these uniforms for a long time,” Tebbe said. “Things like stitched front seams on the pants will help us keep them nice. They are built to last.”

The band uniforms were needed because there were only 45 uniforms. The band has increased every season under the direction of Tebbe and this year will march 60 members.

The Marching Athenians were on the field for the first time in their new uniforms for Friday’s pregame show. The remainder of the game they were in the stands beside the student cheering section. Tebbe said the first halftime show the Athenians will perform will be Oct. 11.

Tebbe thanked the band boosters for raising half of the costs and Crawfordsville Superintendent Dr. Rex Ryker and the school corporation for donating the remainder of the costs.

Tebbe also thanked band booster individuals who had a big part in the two-year fundraising effort, including president Ryan Brandt, Jan Cram, fundraising chairman, treasurer Susie Rogers, and parents Natalie Hurt and Andrea Venis.
