Robert E. Bennett, 87, residing in South Bend, formerly of Granger, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Aug. 4, 2024, in his home.

He was born March 28, 1937, in South Whitley, Indiana, a son of the late Clifford E. & Dorothy (Shaffer) Bennett. On Aug. 20, 1960, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Kay Holland, and they have enjoyed nearly 64 years of marriage. Along with his loving wife Kay, he is survived by his two daughters, Natalie (Brian) Holt of Darlington and Beth (Rick) Morton of Lakeville; son Michael E. (Mari) Bennett of Okatie, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Rachel Artz, Garren Holt, David Bennett, Daniel Bennett, Kimberly Nettles, Caitlyn Ottinger and Brier Campos; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several velcro children and grandchildren.

He was preceded by brother Richard Bennett.

Robert retired as a machinist with Kirby Risk Electrical Supply. He and Kay lived in Crawfordsville for 30 years before returning to South Bend. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a faithful member of Ironwood United Pentecostal Church in South Bend. He was dedicated to the Lord as a Sunday School teacher, Church bus driver, and board member at the First United Pentecostal Church in Crawfordsville. He loved his wife and family dearly.

Services for Mr. Bennett will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Ironwood United Pentecostal Church, 4609 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend. The Rev. Clint Walker will officiate. Graveside services and entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 at the Ironwood United Pentecostal Church, and again one hour prior to the service Tuesday.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Bennett may be offered to Ironwood United Pentecostal Church. The family would like to thank Harmony Hospice Care for their wonderful support and care of Mr. Bennett.
