North schools at full staff

At  Monday’s North Montgomery School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Colleen Moran reported all teacher and staff positions were filled by the start of school.

With available teachers being in short supply, Moran credited her principals in helping with the hiring process.

“I want to thank our principals who helped in filling all the openings,” Moran said. “We hired some great people.”

More people are needed in the transportation department and as substitute teachers.

Although there are enough bus drivers, there is a shortage of substitute drivers. To help address the shortage the school board reaffirmed their commitment to a $500 hiring bonus for anyone completing their training.

A new activity school bus was approved. The expected arrival of the bus is between 10 to 18 months.

Retired teachers can earn $100 per day to substitute and others are paid $90 per day.

In other business, the board:

• Approved revisions to several employee handbooks.

• Approved the hiring of 26 teacher assistants, food service personnel and substitute bus drivers.

• Approved the hiring of 100 extra-curricular positions.

• Approved a CTE joint services agreement with Crawfordsville, South Montgomery and Western Boone school districts to share personnel as well as purchase supplies, equipment and facilities to provide programs and services for career and technical education. The board also approved a not-for-profit lease agreement with the Crawfordsville Redevelopment Commission for classroom and office space at 2255 Phil Ward Blvd. for the CTE program.
