Some people just can’t get enough gardening in their busy lives; and you’ll find this when you drive by Darlisa and Randy Steele’s home at 1010 W. Main St.

The couple’s garden has been selected at the Garden of the Month for July by the Flower Lover’s Garden Club.

With limited space in the front yard, Darlisa has turned to gardening in containers; and just like her mother Anita Arnold, she is a collector of yard art, old pots and containers which she repurposes into wonderful planters. There’s an ever-changing landscape moving the containers around to find that “sweet spot” where they will grow best.

Whimsical comes to my mind when driving by their home where a sign hangs over the front door that says “Welcome to our Porch”; which is bordered by a 20-year-old Japanese maple; both white and pink dogwood and a redbud tree.

The flower beds are made from Poston bricks that were made here in Montgomery County, and in those beds you’ll see daylilies, variegated euonymus and much more.

The containers hold a wide variety of geranium, begonia, petunia, vinca, impatients, dahlias and even some spike plants here and there. Chalk up their success to creative ideas and picking the right plants.
