Hereford Juniors sorted on stock evaluation skills

Young people marked cards to show off their livestock judging skills during the 25th annual VitaFerm Junior National Hereford Expo, “Grand Daddy of ’Em All” in Grand Island, Nebraska, on July 11.

The livestock judging contest, sponsored by Central Life Sciences, drew more than 450 juniors from across the nation.

Dagan Murray, Auburn, Kan., was named the senior high individual, with a score of 249. Paige Nichols, Ovid, Mich., placed second in the division, and Tucker Stagemeyer, Page, Neb., took third-place honors. Kansas topped the senior team division.

The intermediate high individual was Alyssa Williams, Ritzville, Wash., with a score of 250. Ainsley Williams, Van Alystyne, Texas, took second-place honors, and Chance Blum, Reliance, S.D., placed third in the intermediate division. Texas was named the top intermediate team.

W. Zeb Murphree, Hamilton, Texas, topped the junior division. Murphree scored 254. Gage Creamer, Waxahachie, Texas, placed second in the junior division, and Kinleigh Jo Guidry, Brenham, Texas., took third-place honors. Texas also claimed the champion junior team title.

With a score of 206, Copeland Paulsen, Peston, Iowa, was named the peewee high individual. Saylor Norvell, Tuttle, Okla., took second-place, and Cricket Collins, Frederick Okla., won third place. The top peewee team hailed from Oklahoma.
