Maple Grove Extension Homemakers

Posted

The Maple Grove Homemakers met July 22 at the Waynetown Baptist Church with nine members and one guest present. The meeting was opened by President Linda Miller, welcoming members.

We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Extension Homemaker Creed. Roll call was answered with, “Where is your favorite place to watch fireworks on the 4th of July?”

Betty Jeffers gave the treasurer’s report. Eileen Matricia reported on Minnie Howard and Howard sent word that she has missed seeing everyone and hopes to get back soon. Sandra Lightle had an inspiration on freedom, and we all need to use it as a “habit” and to take our freedom seriously and not abuse our freedom.

Miller thanked those that worked at the Open Class in the Exhibit Hall during the 4-H fair. Maple Grove members that had exhibits at Open Class were Judy Tulley who entered three baskets, a Blue Granite which was a Reserve Champion winner, Sailor Knot that was a Blue-Ribbon winner and a Dark Stoney Mountain that won a Grand Champion honor. Her baskets are a sight to behold and are absolutely beautiful. Carol Vice entered a Wire Wrapped Brooch that won a Blue Ribbon. Miller entered a knitted red sweater that won a Blue Ribbon and Reserve Champion, a cross-stitch picture of a girl standing at the seashore which won a Blue Ribbon and a crocheted Angel towel which won a Blue Ribbon. Judy McBride entered three Christmas trees which won a Blue Ribbon. They encouraged the members to start thinking about a project they would like to do for next year’s Open Class.

Miller passed out the new program books for 2024-25. Jeffers will hold our meeting in October. This will be our annual auction which is our money maker for the year. We need to be busy looking for all those wonderful hidden treasures we have been hiding in the back of our closets and drawers. Carol Crowder made a motion that we meet again at Lavinia’s for our September meeting. Motion carried. McBride will make the arrangements for this luncheon meeting. Guests will be welcome to attend this luncheon but will need to make a reservation with McBride.

Tulley explained the procedure for making the noodles for the Holiday Expo which will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 at the 4-H Building. Members are encouraged to help with this noodle project. It takes three days to make the noodles and they make at least 100 bags a  day. You don’t have to spend all day working, just fit it into your schedule. There will also be a bake sale and vendors will also be in attendance at the Holiday Expo.

Vice had a lesson on arranging flowers this month. She had different colored flowers along with baby breath and she made a beautiful bouquet.

Our meeting this month was a surprise birthday party for Claudine Whalen. We discovered that her daughter, Cheryl Luzader, was planning on bringing her to our monthly meeting. We decided to surprise Claudine. Mother and Daughter were both surprised. We all had birthday cards for Claudine, and it just so happened that the pretty flower bouquet, which had been our lesson for the day, was sent home with the birthday girl! We were so glad we could celebrate her special day at our monthly meeting. Rita Kirkpatrick, McBride and Lightle were hostesses. It was a special day that we will all remember. Thanks, Claudine, for making our day a special one also.
