David Joseph Smith passed away early Saturday morning, Aug. 3, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. He was 72.
He was born Oct. 21, 1951, at Crawfordsville, to Joseph and Clara Smith. He was a faithful member of Youngs Chapel Christian Church. He graduated from Linden High School. He was a 10-year member of 4-H and loved going to the Montgomery County 4-H fair every year.
His first job was helping his dad farm and later worked 20 years for Wal-Mart Optical. He enjoyed talking to people and telling jokes and stories. Despite his handicaps, David faced the world with grace and confidence.
Surviving family members include: two brothers, Mark (Susan) Smith of Crawfordsville, and Dale (Ruth) Smith of Bowling Green, Ohio; two sisters, Marcia (Barry) Rhoads of Brownsburg and Donna (Dave) Church of Fishers; 13 nieces and nephews; and 22 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at Burkhart Funeral Home. Services will begin at 1 p.m., led by Pastor Gary Edwards. After the service, he will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
