Downtown holiday celebrations are on the horizon, and organizers are making plans.

On Wednesday, members of the Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety approved various requests from Sue Lucas with Crawfordsville Main Street related to Downtown Party Night on Nov. 25.

Lucas asked for the temporary closing of the 100 block of East Main Street for the city tree-lighting ceremony. The street will be reopened for traffic after the short ceremony.

She also asked for no parking signs to be placed in the 100 block of West Pike Street to accommodate for a hayride.

Lucas said a kettle corn vendor will operate next to the hayride, but it is the only food vendor allowed during the celebration.

“As far as Crawfordsville Main Street goes, we don’t invite food trucks,” she said. “We want people inside the restaurants and stores. It’s the downtown business owners’ night.
Lucas also asked for police officers to again be stationed at Main and Washington streets during the event to assist pedestrians with safe crossings.

The board also approved a request from Stacy Sommer with the Crawfordsville-
wMontgomery County Chamber of Commerce for streets closures and route for the annual Christmas Parade. The parade at 2 p.m. Dec. 3 will follow the same route as in years past, pending approval from the Indiana Department of Transportation. The parade begins near the railroad track on East Main Street and travels west toward Washington Street. At Washington Street participants turn south for one block and then turn back east on Pike Street, where the parade ends. Participant line-up begins at 12:30 p.m.
