SWAT aids in arrest of C’ville man

A Crawfordsville man wanted on a parole warrant was arrested Tuesday with the assistance of the Montgomery County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Team.

According to information supplied by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday sheriff’s deputies observed Jared C. Conkright, 39, of Crawfordsville, in the 2600 block of West State Road 32. When they attempted to contact Conkright at a residence, he refused to answer the door. Due to several previous encounters with Conkright, the SWAT Team was activated.

At 11:10 a.m., the SWAT team arrived and announcements were made for Conkright to exit the residence. After several attempts, a distraction device was used and Conkright opened the front door and surrendered to law enforcement.

State Road 32 was temporarily closed during the incident. The road was reopened just before 11:30 a.m.

Conkright was arrested on an Indiana Department of Corrections parole warrant and a Montgomery County warrant for the following charges related to a July 12 incident: misdemeanor battery resulting in bodily injury; two counts of felony intimidation; felony battery by means of a deadly weapon; felony pointing a firearm; felony criminal confinement; misdemeanor unlawful carrying of a handgun; and felony strangulation. He is being held without bond.

The Montgomery County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT team consist of officers from the Montgomery County Sheriffs Office, Crawfordsville Police Department and Crawfordsville Fire Department. The Ladoga Town Marshal also assisted at the scene.
