Mustangs compete in Bi-County

Fountain Central’s three golfers participated in the Bi-County Tourney on Tuesday at Covington. The Mustang scores were Autumn Payne 53, Rya Jackson 57 and Bella Bacon 58.

The Bi-County continued Wednesday.

 

South splits three-way match

The Southmont girls’ golf team split a three-way match Tuesday at Deer Creek.

Tri-West won the meet with a 190 followed by the Mounties at 192. Monrovia placed third with a 242.

Leading the Mounties was Kelsey Thompson (personal best) and Addison Meadows both shooting 42. Addison Kendricks followed with a 49 and Kate Myers with a 59.

The Mounties are back on the links tomorrow for their first home match of the year hosting South Putnam. They will then host their own invitational Saturday at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Southmont downs North Vermillion

The Southmont volleyball team defeated North Vermillion on Tuesday 25-10, 25-19, 25-22.

Mallory Mason had 24 assists and 10 aces. Ella Barry had nine kills and nine digs. Catie Himes added five aces and six kills. Kenzie Douglas recorded six kills and Jenna Grino and 10 digs.

 

Fountain Central sweep Bethesda

Fountain Central disposed of Bethesda 3-0.

The Mustangs combined for 33 kills, 15 aces and 52 digs.

Fountain Central’s Aubrey Ashwill had 11 kills, four aces and two blocks.

Fountain Central is at Delphi today.

 

Trojans defeat Chargers

North Montgomery fell to 0-1 after losing to Covington at home on Tuesday. The Trojans won in straight sets 11-25, 17-25, 12-25.

“Covington is always a good first game for us to see the level we are going to be able to compete,” Charger Coach Taylor Pierce said. “We have work to do to get where we want to be for the remainder of the season.”

North will travel to Clinton Prairie today.

 

Southmont wins home opener

Southmont defeated North Vermillion 3-0 on Tuesday in its home opener. Scores were 25-10, 25-19, 25-22.

The Mounties travel to Frankfort today and will play in an early-bird tournament at North Putnam on Saturday.

 

SOCCER

North falls to strong Bethesda team

The North Montgomery girls’ soccer team fell 11-2 to a strong Bethesda team Tuesday.

Ava Nunan and Taylor Hudson scored goals for the Chargers and Genesis Reyes was credited with the assist.

“The experience we gained tonight against a very strong Bethesda team was invaluable,” said coach Julie Hodges. “The opportunity to play against a high level team early will only prepare us for a tough conference schedule starting with Danville in week two. Our effort never wavered, and we improved throughout the game. We were able to get our offense going in the second half with higher quality shots that we were able to put in the back of the net.”

The team record is 0-1. The Chargers will host South Vermillion on Saturday.

 

Cville outplays Western Boone

The Athenians played Western Boone 9-0 in Tuesday’s season opener.

The team was led by three senior captains with Alec Saidian as goalkeeper, Max Brummett holding the defense and Jaziel Gil leading the attaching forwards.

The Crawfordsville defense held the Stars to only one shot on goal in the entire game.

In the first half, Athenian David Munoz opened the season with a goal in the eighth minute. Gil followed with a goal in the 16th minute and Gil struck again in the 24th minute. Colten Custer scored in the 37th minute before intermission.

Second half goals were recorded by Dario Huesca, Munoz, Dio Freeze and two more by Gil.

The Athenians face Cascade today at home.

 

Athenians fall to Eagles

The Crawfordsville girls’ soccer team fell 4-1 in its season opener with Faith Christian on Tuesday. Caroline Novak scored the lone goal.

The team travels to Benton Central today to take on the Bison.

 

TENNIS

Chargers drop home match to Pike

North Montgomery’s tennis team was defeated by Pike 3-2 on Tuesday.

Winning for the Chargers was No. 2 single player Cade Cole with scores of 6-1, 6-4.

Freshman Carter Thompson secured his first varsity win at No. 3 singles with a score of 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 (10-3).

The Chargers’ No. 1 singles player, Becket Martin, lost 6-1, 6-4.

The Chargers No. 1 doubles team of Dane Elliott and Austin Biddle lost 6-2, 6-2 and the No. 2 team of Keaton Brown and Cayden Keller lost 6-2, 6-2.

North will be in action again today at Tri-West.
