Karl Henry Moser and Mary Joan Hunsicker Moser

Posted

Long-time Montgomery County residents, Karl and Joan spent their last few years living in Lowell, Michigan. Throughout their rich lives, they resided in many states, including North Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, and Florida. Although they enjoyed community and collected deep friendships everywhere, they considered Indiana their home.

Joan passed away Dec. 14, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 12, 1932, to Russell and Ramona (Spencer) Hunsicker. Her siblings are Dick of Linden, the late Joyce Lee, the late Barbara Jean (Hunsicker) Odle and the late Don.

Karl passed away July 17, 2024, of natural causes. He was born Feb. 14, 1931, to Harry and Naomi (Swanay) Moser. His siblings are Donn of Waveland and Mary Ann Groce of Mooresville, North Carolina.

Karl and Joan were married Oct. 21, 1951, and had three sons, Kevin of Lowell, Michigan, the late Mark and Eric of Beaufort, South Carolina. They are survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Although Karl and Joan’s parents attended high school together and were good friends, they didn’t formally meet until one summer at the Russellville 4-H fair. When Karl related the story of their meeting, he would say, “I looked into Joan’s eyes for the first time and knew that she was the one.” Joan, on the other hand, didn’t come to the same early conclusion. But they began dating, and at some point, Joan realized that Karl was “keeping me so busy I had no time to date anyone else.” So, it continued for the rest of their lives. On Oct. 21, 2021, Karl and Joan celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They lived a full life of joy and challenges, but through it all, they were inseparable. A shared life lived well.

There will be a graveside service Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Waveland. It will be followed by a gathering celebrating Karl and Joan’s life at the Crawfordsville Country Club beginning at approximately 4 p.m.
