Wheels up for football

Posted

It is football time.

I wasn’t sure if we were going to be visiting this week, so you already have my schedule for this weekend in hand.

But, in case you didn’t catch last week’s notes, this weekend starts with a Fever game Friday night (after a half-day at Lucas Oil getting ready for the Colts next game.

Then on Saturday, it is an evening Colts preseason game. The last one for our crew. The third game is next Thursday on Amazon.

Sunday starts bright and early, with a 5:40 flight out of Indy, through Dallas and on to San Jose. Catch an Uber to the hotel, change clothes and catch a ride to the stadium for a preseason game with my Fox crew.

This is a practice game for our crew, and while the Saints and San Francisco game will be on the air on Fox, it won’t be us.

Those things happen some times. You get new faces on the crew, and they like some practice, and since we are adding a pretty big name to our crew, it needs to be ready.

Just cause it’s Tom Brady …

Last weekend was a good football warmup, although I still have spring UFL stats books lying around that now have to get filed or tossed.

I also had the honor of writing seven fall preview stories for the North Montgomery sports. I just want to thank all the coaches for their incredible help and cooperation. They are trying to put teams together and learn all the freshmen names, while at the same time putting up with media questions about the season. It’s a real balancing act.

We also played the last night of summer softball down at Elston this past Tuesday. The gals had more rainouts this season than in the last four combined, so we had to stretch things out a bit. I just wanted to extend a very grateful thank-you to all the men’s and women’s team coaches for their hard work, and also a very big thanks to Park and Rec for all their hard work. Jack moved a reservoir of water off fields, especially on some Tuesdays.

There is coed softball on Sundays starting after Labor Day, but that is another committee. I have a full schedule on Sundays.

We will chat about that in the weeks ahead.

For the moment, I’ll just get back in the swing of flying to California. I have done that plenty of times in the last few years.

Safe travels.
