John C. Goodin Jr., 81, of New Richmond passed away at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, in his daughter’s home in rural New Richmond following a lengthy illness. He had lived in Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville the past six years. 

He was born May 9, 1943, at Tinsley, Kentucky, to the late John C. Goodin Sr. and Dorothy Evelyn Carr Goodin. They both preceded him in death. He married Gladys Ruth Reamer on Feb. 2, 1968, at New Richmond. She preceded him in death June 8, 2018.

He attended Lone Jack High School in Kentucky. He retired as a truck driver from the Montgomery County Highway Department. He formerly belonged to the New Richmond Christian Church. He was known for his outstanding garden before his health failed. He enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting, fishing and mushrooming.  He had a knack for locating Indian artifacts. 

He is survived by three sons, John C. (Shannon) Goodin III of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Max Goodin of New Richmond and Bob (Michaela) Goodin of Independence;  daughter Marian (Jake) Johnson of rural New Richmond; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ruth; a brother; two sisters; and granddaughter Echo Rain. 

Visitation hours will be noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with funeral services following at 3 p.m. Pastor Alan Goff will officiate.
