Posted

Indiana State Trooper Bradley Howell was among the 21 troopers who graduated from the 85th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy on July 18.

Howell completed the 24-week comprehensive training regimen, which included over 600 hours of classroom instruction and nearly 400 hours of hands-on, practical scenario-based training. Key areas of instruction encompassed criminal and traffic law, crash investigation, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, firearms training, de-escalation techniques, impaired driving detection, and other essential skills for modern policing.

Howell has been assigned to the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post. He will now begin a three-month field training program, during which he will work closely with several experienced field training officers. Upon successfully completing this phase, he will be issued his own patrol vehicle and will commence solo patrol duties within the Lafayette District.

Howell is originally from Ford County, Illinois, but later moved to Fountain County. He is an alumnus of Fountain Central High School, graduating in 2018. Howell furthered his education at Ivy Tech, where he earned an associate’s degree in paramedic science in 2020. Before joining the Indiana State Police Academy, Howell gained valuable experience working in Montgomery County from 2022 until his academy enrollment. He currently resides in Fountain County.

Howell’s twin brother, Brandon Howell, is also a member of the Indiana State Police, serving as a two-year veteran at the Lafayette Post.
