Indiana Racing Memorial Association's 57th historical marker honors Cummins Racing at 1000 Fifth St. (Plant 1, Gate 1) Columbus. Participating in the unveiling ceremony during the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Brickyard Weekend were Facility Maintenance Associate and Diesel Workers Union Member with the Most Seniority Dave “Bear” Gelfius, IRMA Advisor Brad Winters, Cummins Engine Plant Manager Kyle Lewandowski, NASCAR Driver and Mitchell, Indiana, native Chase Brisco, IRMA Executive Team Member Dave Bozell, IRMA Co-Founder Mark Eutsler, and Engine Business Unit and Heavy-Duty Machining General Manager Scott Mann. In 1931, Cummins #8 Diesel was the first car to run the Indianapolis 500 non-stop. It was also the first diesel car at the race. Using 31 gallons of fuel it finished 12th in 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 9 seconds.
