Getting ready for travel

Posted

NFL starts for me this weekend, but the travel does not.

Unless you count a run to Indy, which isn’t really a trip.

I’ve got the Colts this Sunday, but things get a lot busier next weekend.

It starts with a Fever game next Friday night, after prepping for the Colts game during the day.

Then it is the Colts last home preseason game on Saturday, and on Sunday, it is a trip to San Francisco for a practice NFL game with my Fox crew.

So, from zero to 60 in a couple days.

The third Colts preseason game is on a Thursday, and will be on Amazon, so I don’t get a slice of that action.

With all the hot weather, it has been difficult to get into the football mode or mood, but duty calls. A couple work days at the dome last week while Gen-Con was happening down on the floor of the facility was interesting. All those folks whose passion is gaming gathered together in a place where another game occurs.

The weather also gave me a moment to share.

It was Tuesday, and we were wrapping up the women’s softball season down at Elston. We had a rainout game to make up, and we played the all-star games.

Well, as you all know, it was about a 101 degree heat index on Tuesday afternoon, and we shortened game times and added breaks for the hot night expected.

Then, that front went through about 7 o’clock, and things got downright nice out. Some clouds, lower temps and the breeze changed things.

In fact, as the last games were getting ready to start, some of our loyal and great fans got up and went to their cars to get a jacket!

I was more than impressed that they had a jacket in their cars on the hottest day of the year. I have an umbrella in my car, and a pair of overshoes for mud, but there was no spare jacket. Good prep on their part!

We are also getting into the fall sports mode, and I’m getting notes and thoughts from the North Montgomery fall sports coaches for preview stories next week.

Oh yeah, and as I sat down to write, there is an email about a college football game on Labor Day weekend.

So, it’s all on the close horizon.

As the new look for the sports department works itself out, it appears this column will be moving to Saturdays.

I know there will be stories to share, just a different day. We have been together most every day of the week over these many years, so you can read about the last week as I venture out on a new adventure.

I’m looking forward to it!

Safe travels.
