A house fire Monday morning on the city’s east side sent a local man to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville with possible smoke inhalation.

Crawfordsville firefighters were called to 7 Park Lane East at 8:21 a.m. for a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found the home’s two occupants outside. Both left the home on their own.

Fire Chief Scott Busenbark said firefighters entered the home through the front door and ascended the stairs to the second-floor bedroom where the fire was reported.

“The firefighters encountered terrible heat and smoke, but quickly contained the fire,” he said.

The fire, which was contained to the bedroom, was doused in about 10 minutes.

Busenbark said a man told firefighters he awoke to the fire in the bedroom. He was transported to the local hospital as a precaution.

The fire caused extensive damage to the bedroom and the remainder of the home sustained smoke damage.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation.
