Crawfordsville football is still focused on the process of improving as a team. Friday CHS who enters the final week of the regular season 0-8 (0-6 SAC) will entertain the 1-7 (0-6 SAC) Frankfort Hot Dogs. Cville is coming off a 41-0 loss to Tri-West while Frankfort is coming off a 36-6 loss to North Montgomery. It will also be senior night for the Athenians.

For Cville coach Brad Clark he’s getting his team focused on trying to play their best football.

“It’s exciting to conclude the regular season at home because we’ve been on the road the last few weeks,” Clark said. “It’s also exciting because it’s senior night and that’s something that we’re focused on is playing for that group. Those guys have put four years of blood sweat and tears into this program. We’re still focused on us because until we have to improve in some areas if we want to come out with a win on Friday.”

The Hot Dogs are led out by sophomore signal caller Dennis Barkley who on the season is just 19-45 (42%) for 214 yards and a single TD. Caleb Boggs is the leading rusher for Frankfort with 359 yards on 109 carries and four scores. Barkley has added 207 yards on the ground on just 36 carries and three scores.

Crawfordsville all season has been a pass first team and is led by its senior duo of signal caller Kaden Patton and star wide out Ethan McLemore. Patton on the season has thrown for 1,467 yards and seven touchdowns. McLemore is nearing a great feat in high school football of 1,000 receiving yards. He currently sits at 51 catches for 825 yards and six scores. Sam Minnette has also caught 31 passes and Ashton Wilson has added 23.

“We’ve really tried to progress and save our best football for this time of the season,” Clark added. “Our guys understand that they only have a few weeks left in the season. At this point every practice and every snap matters. We want to go out on a high note and our kids our excited to try and do that these final two weeks.”

Something that hasn’t been an issue all season and is completely out of both teams control is the weather. That is scheduled to change on Friday with the forecast calling for rainy conditions. It’s something that Clark and his team have tried to prepare for this week in practice.

“We’ve had a lot of pretty Friday nights this season so the rain isn’t something we’ve had to worry about this year until now,” he said. “We’ve done a few things in practice this week to try and mimic what it might be like on Friday. We can’t make excuses about it though because it’s something that both teams are going to have to overcome. It’s just another form of adversity that we’ll have to overcome.”

You can catch a live broadcast of the game between the Athenians and the Hot Dogs on WIMC 103.9 as Jared McMurry and Codey Emerson will have the call beginning at 6:30.
