Mounties
beat Eagles

Southmont hosted South Putnam on Thursday and shut out the Eagles 5-0. All sets were won 2-0.

No. 1 singles player Gavin Downey defeated Luke Hutcheson 6-1, 6-1 and No. 2 singles player defeated Aiden Brinkman 6-3, 6-1. At No. 3 singles Colton Cory beat Jackson Webster 6-2, 6-3.

The Mounties No. 1 doubles team of Owen McCutchan and Dean McGaughey defeated Grant Jackman and William Schurtter 6-1, 6-0 and the No. 3 doubles team of Mikey Hardin and Alex Garcia toppled Robert Emmerick and Emmitt Shircliff  6-0, 6-1.

The Mounties will be in action Saturday at Tri-West.

 

Chargers down Tiger Cubs

North Montgomery defeated Greencastle 3-2 on Thursday. A sweep in the doubles teams was the difference.

The Chargers No. 2 doubles team of Keaton Brown and Cayden Keller along with the No. 1 doubles of Carter Thompson and Austin Biddle accounted for two of the three Charger match points. The duo defeated Kadin Bond and Keita Noro 6-0, 6-1.

No. 2 singles Cade Cole lost his first set 2-6 against Gavin Tyson but won the next two sets 6-0, 6-5.

No. 1 singles Beckett Martin and No. 3 singles Dane Elliott were not able to pick up wins.

Greencastle’s No. 1 singles Jay Glotzbach defeated Martin 0-6, 0-6. Elliott was defeated by Griffin Beasley 1-6, 2-6.

“Keller and Brown cruised to a quick victory and our No. 1 doubles had a slow start but turned it around by winning 11 of the last 13 games in their match,” Charger coach Devan Plant said. “Our guys get a well-deserved break this weekend as we prepare to play a tough Crawfordsville team.”

The Chargers (6-5, 2-1 SAC) are off until Monday when they travel to county foe Crawfordsville for a Chase Points and Sagamore Athletic Conference match.

 

Athenians down Stars

Crawfordsville beat Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Western Boone 4-1 on Thursday.

Athenian No. 2 singles Wyatt Motz beat Jon Rutherford 6-2, 6-4 and No. 3 singles Jude Coursey defeated Western Boone’s Jacob Collins 6-0, 6-1.

Both Athenian doubles team secured victories.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jude Hutchison and Henry Bannon won 6-4, 6-4 over Stars Owen Oakley and Easton Nance.

Crawfordsville’s No. 2 doubles team of Nolan Watt and Ian Hurt won 5-2, 6-2 over Eli Mitchell and Burke Cavins.

“It was a great night for Athenian tennis,” Crawfordsville coach Craig Brainard said. “I am really proud of the way we were able to maintain our composure in tough situations, adjust, and come out on top.”

Crawfordsville plays in the Lafayette Jeff Booster Tournament on Saturday and will host county rival North Montgomery on Monday.

 

Fountain Central defeats Danville

Fountain Central traveled to Danville on Thursday and defeated the Warriors 3-2.

FC’s No. 2 singles player Skyler Hoagland defeated Max Carr 6-0, 6-0 and No. 3 singles player Ayden Bratchelor beat Liam Stierwalt 6-2, 6-1.

The Mustangs No. 2 doubles team of William Armstrong and Jose Duarte-Grajales beat Brandon Drzakowski and Oliver Riggs 6-2, 6-2.

Mustang No. 1 singles Gabe McCollum lost to Jake Waits in a hard-fought match 1-6, 6-2, 5-7.

The Mustangs No. 1 doubles team of Levi McCandless lost to Landon Kismer and Cole Flick 2-6, 5-7.

Fountain Central (7-1) is competing on Saturday at Seeger.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Southmont corrals Mustangs

Southmont defeated Fountain Central 3-1 on Thursday.

Game scores were 25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19.

Southmont moves to 6-8 and will host Cloverdale on Monday. Fountain Central drops to 4-7 and plays in the Rossville Invitational on Saturday.

 

Greencastle drops Chargers

North Montgomery lost to Greencastle 3-0 on Wednesday. Game scores were 22-25, 9-25, 18-25.

Charger Piper Ramey had 18 assists and 14 digs. Kaedance Young led North Montgomery with 14 kills. Ayden Braun recorded 13 digs.

The Chargers (4-10, 0-3 SAC) will travel to SAC rival Tri-West on Monday.

 

GOLF

Chargers fall to Stars

North Montgomery faced off with Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Western Boone 168-201 on Thursday at Cool Lake Golf Club.

Charger freshman Marlee Reed led her team with a personal best 42.

“She has been putting in the work and tonight it paid off,” Charger coach Bob Ryker said. “Hitting a milestone like that is a big confidence boost and sets a positive example for the rest of the team.”

Other Charger scores were Mallory Inskeep 47, Krestyn Bradford 54 and Kayla Sankey 58. The final team strokes of 201 was a season low.

“I am proud how the ladies are improving each week,” Ryker said. “We are hitting personal bests and you can feel the momentum building. I know we can carry this into the conference meet.”

The SAC meet is slated for Wednesday at the Crawfordsville Country Club.
