Posted

Advance tickets for the 17th annual Taste of Montgomery County go on sale Aug. 1 in select Crawfordsville locations. The Taste of Montgomery County will be held noon to 9 p.m. Aug. 24 at the General Lew Wallace Study and Museum.

Visitors can purchase Taste tickets at the Carriage House Interpretive Center of the General Lew Wallace Study & Museum, home of the Taste; the Montgomery County Visitors and Convention Bureau on the first floor of Fusion 54 at 101 W. Main St.; Milligan’s Flowers & Gifts at 115 E. Main St.; and Crawfordsville Community Center at 922 E. South Blvd.

Advance tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students. Benefits of purchasing advance tickets are twofold; tickets are less expensive than admission on Taste day and ticket holders will be able to get in the gate faster on Taste day! Admission on the day of the Taste is $8 for adults and $3 for students.

The Taste of Montgomery County is an annual fundraiser for the Lew Wallace Study Preservation Society, the organization that maintains General Lew Wallace’s original artifacts and keeps his legacy alive. Not only was Wallace the youngest Major General in the Civil War and the author of the novel Ben-Hur which was written on the grounds where the TASTE is held; but he was also the Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire and Governor of New Mexico Territory during the Billy-the-Kid days. All proceeds from Taste admissions directly benefit educational programming at the museum, while food ticket sales are split between the museum and the vendors.

Restaurants and caterers showcasing their foods at this year’s Taste include: China Inn, Coal Creek Cellars Winery, Crawfordsville County Club, Four Seasons, Greeks Pizzeria, Jesus Kettle Corn, The Juniper Spoon, Klooz Brewz, Woody’s BBQ, Tacos El Pampano, Messer’s Bar & Grill, and Smokin Melts and Rollin Dough and more.

Musical entertainment includes Stampede Stringband playing at 12:30-2:30 p.m.; The Moon Cats 3:30-5:30 p.m. and Michael Kelsey 7-9 p.m.

Volunteer opportunities are available for this year’s event. Volunteers receive free entry and their choice of a T-shirt or five food tickets. Those interested in volunteering should visit online at www.tasteofmontgomerycounty.com/volunteers/ to sign up or call the Museum at 765-362-5769.
