Seniors top South golf roster

Posted

NEW MARKET — Addison Meadows.

That is almost enough said when it comes to Southmont girls golf in 2024. The senior is coming off a third trip to the state finals and a successful summer of golf.

But the Mounties also return four of their top players from last year. Along with Meadows are Kelsey Thompson, Kate Myers and Addison Kendricks. That, foursome, along with freshmen Maggie Gilliland and Emma Gleason, make up the six person roster this year. Hannah Long graduated and Isla Stetler moved to South Carolina.

“Our goal is the same every year. Be better today than we were yesterday and better tomorrow than we are today,” Southmont Coach Bill Whalen said. “If we can do that then we should be playing our best golf by the time county, conference and sectional come along.”

Meadows and Thompson are the lone seniors.

“Coach Williamson and I will be leaning on them heavily for leadership with the other girls. Both are four-year varsity players and have meant a lot to our ladies program,” Whalen said. “They are both more than willing to help with the younger girls and neither expect special treatment due to being seniors. It has been an honor and a pleasure to have had these ladies in our program for the last four years.”

The Mounties teed off their season Aug. 5 and play home meets at Crawfordsville Country Club.
