Rodger D. Martin, 72, of Thorntown passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Feb. 19, 1952, at Lebanon, a son of the late Lora and Marjorie (Davidson) Martin. Rodger married Beverly Smith on Aug. 31, 1970, and she survives.

Rodger worked at Kroger as a meat cutter, retiring after 40 years. He also processed deer for several years and made plenty of friends during that time. If anyone ever needed his help, he was always there to help if he could. Rodger took pride in everything he did. He enjoyed gardening and doing yardwork, along with his Martin birds that returned every year. As he aged, he became a softie with his pets.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 54 years, Beverly Martin of Thorntown; sons, Chris (Kristen) Martin of Thorntown and Josh Martin of Danville; brothers, Steve Martin of Lebanon, Dave Martin of Colfax and Larry (Diana) Martin of Thorntown; sisters, Kathy (Jerry) Perdue of Thorntown, Kim (Mark) Davis of Thorntown, and Karen Martin of Lebanon; and bonus children, Ari, Vivi and Nico.

In addition to his parents, Rodger was preceded in death by his brothers, Kevin, Fred and Bob Martin; and sisters, Shirley Hankins and Patty Dean.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, July 20 for a graveside service at noon at Greenlawn Cemetery in Darlington. A celebration of life will follow at the Darlington Conservation Club from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Chicken Nugget and Gang, Lebanon or to 21st Century Greater Works Ministry, Colfax.
