Richard Kent Dickerson, 79, of Waveland passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville.

He was born June 6, 1945, at Lebanon, to Curtis W. and Pauline V. Williams Dickerson. They precede him in death. On Dec. 3, 1973, at Lebanon, he married Jean Eleanor Hunt Dickerson. She precedes him in death.

He joined the Navy in 1965 serving as a radio operator off the coast of Vietnam aboard the USS Manley.

Richard was a drywall contractor for 20 years before becoming a rural mail carrier. In 2004, he retired from delivering mail and began helping a local farmer during harvest.

He is a graduate of Perry Central High School in Boone County. He was a member of Harvest Fellowship Church in Crawfordsville. He was a member of the American Legion in Waveland and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Rockville, where he served as chaplain.

Richard enjoyed life and laughter. He loved family and friends. He was confident in his salvation because of Jesus. Music, sporting events, and road farming were among his favorite pastimes.

He is survived by son Jason (Lis) Surber; daughter-in-law Cheryl Dickerson; brother Myron (Nancy) Dickerson; sister Sharon (Stanley) Anderson; sister-in-law Carol Dickerson; four grandchildren, Maddy and Abby Dickerson, Will (Lauren) Glancy and Drew (Jaclyn) Glancy.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; wife Jean Eleanor Hunt Dickerson; son Samuel K. Dickerson; and brothers, Ronald Dickerson and Jim Dickerson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14 at Machledt & Servies Funeral Home, 301 E. Green St., Waveland, with Jason Surber officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Waveland.
