Eleven members of the Gamma Xi Chapter attended the Indiana state meeting hosted by the Chi Chapter of Brookston in Lafayette on April 22. Our members enjoyed meeting other Psi Iota Xi members from 70 other chapters. The Gamma Xi members learned a lot from the Chi sisters about hosting our state meeting in Crawfordsville next year.
The May meeting of the Gamma Xi Chapter was held May 1 at the Crawfordsville District Public Library. Pam Karle reported that 111 spring goodie bags were given to area preschool and elementary school children. Books were given to the Montessori program in Crawfordsville. The Gamma Xi Chapter was pleased to continue presenting the annual Samantha Darst Speech Awards for excellence in public speaking that first began in 1952. Monetary awards were given at Crawfordsville High School to Elli Jeffries (first place), Thomas Bowling (second place) and Cimbria Bowling (third place).
Sophia Morris from North Montgomery High School was also presented a Samantha Darst Award for excellence in public speaking. Our chapter congratulates these students.
Our chapter thanks our community for supporting our geranium sale. The profits will help support the Summer Speech Clinic for area children that will be held in June at Hose Elementary School. School speech therapists have sign up information for parents.
Plans are being made for a dinner meeting to be held on June 5 and our game in the children’s area at the Strawberry Festival.
