Tiger Cubs beat Mounties

Southmont was defeated 1-4 at Greencastle on Wednesday.

The lone Mountie win was at No. 2 doubles when Eden Hernandez and Chazz Long defeated Tiger Cubs Kyle Brentlinger and Keith Noro 6-0, 6-2.

Mountie Gavin Downey was beaten by Jay Glotzbach 0-6, 0-6 at No. 1 singles. Southmont’s No. 2 singles player Caden Allen lost to Gavin Tyson 4-6, 6-4, 7-10 in a close match.

South’s No. 3 singles player Colton Cory lost 2-6, 2-6 to Griffen Beasley 2-5, 4-6.

Mounties No. 1 doubles team of Owen McCutchan and Dean McGaughey dropped their match to Mitch Stappers and Cayden Scott 2-6, 4-6.

The Mounties (5-9) will play Saturday at the Western Boone Invitational.

North loses to Knights

North Montgomery celebrated senior night Wednesday in a little different manner. Coach Devan Plant mixed up his lineup at the request of the seniors. Although the team lost 1-4 to Central Catholic, the evening was worth it Plant said.

“Beckett Martin and Cade Cole asked to play doubles, so I let them,” he said. “This also gave me the opportunity to play some guys in different positions who very well could be our singles players next year.”

The only win for the Chargers came from the normal No. 2 doubles team of Keaton Brown and Cayden Keller.

The Chargers (6-8) played at Seeger on Thursday and will travel Monday to Western Boone.

SOCCER

Chargers lose to Danville

North Montgomery girls’ soccer team lost to Sagamore Conference foe Danville 8-2.

The Chargers had goals from Gracie Ratcliff and Alexis Bennett. Taylor Hudson had two assists.

Charger coach Julie Hodges said her team had changed their approach to account for Danville’s strength but struggled early in the game.

“Once we settled in, we played much better,” Hodges said. “It was a good experience for us to work with trying to make in-game adjustments and that experience will allow us to improve.”

North Montgomery played Frankfort on Thursday.

Wabash drops first match of season

A goal in the 64th minute snapped a five-match winning streak by the Wabash College soccer team. The host Little Giants lost a 1-0 contest to the visitors from Hanover College at Fischer Field on Wednesday.

The Little Giants will travel to Michigan to play Hope College on Saturday and the University of Olivet on Sunday.
