Many boycotting Ind. Dems attend governor's speech

INDIANAPOLIS — Many Indiana House Democrats who've been boycotting over a right-to-work bill have chosen not to sit out Gov. Mitch Daniels' State of the State speech.

House Democratic leader Patrick Bauer was in his seat at the front of the House chamber as Daniels began his speech Tuesday night. About two dozen of the 40 House Democrats also were in the chamber, including a few who escorted Daniels to the rostrum.

Republicans gave the governor a standing ovation, although some Democrats remained seated.

Most of the House Democrats skipped the House session Tuesday afternoon, after also skipping three days last week before showing up on Friday.

A crowd of labor union protesters chanted from a Statehouse hallway, making enough noise to be heard inside the chamber but not disrupt the governor.
