James K. Vowels, 79, Crawfordsville, went to be with the Lord on June 20, 2024.  He had his family by his side.

Jim was born Nov. 5, 1944, to Virginia Welliever and Jack Adolph Vowels (deceased) in Crawfordsville. He was raised by Max McCalment (deceased).

He was a 1963 graduate of Crawfordsville high School. He started working at California Pellet Mill where he was a top notch machinist, retiring after 48 years.

In 1981 he married Melanie (Melvin-Garver). They were together 43 years. He loved to hunt and fish, especially with Doug and the twins Cortney and Cody. They would go coon hunting and tell the girls to stay by the tree.

He is survived by his wife;  daughter Lori (Bruce) Harvey of Waveland; son Jason (Angie) Vowels of Waveland; step-son Chris (Patty) Garver of Crawfordsville; two grandsons, Will Harvey of Waveland and Jacob Garver of Crawfordsville; granddaughter Zoe Garver of Rockville; three great-grandchildren, Kayde, Karder and Willow Garver; sisters, Reva Bigham of Crawfordsville and Peggy Black of Crawfordsville; and  brother Donnie McCalment.

Preceding him in death are his parents; three sisters, Joyce Pettit, Phyllis Turpin and Karen Gibson; and brother Ronnie McCalment.

He also has several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Hunt &Son Funeral Home is assisting the family.
