FC golfers focus on individual goals

Posted

VEEDERSBURG — The golf balls rattle into the cup and another challenge is met for the Fountain Central girls golfers.

Numbers will not be high as far as team members and second year coach Meghan Doss looks for the scoring numbers to decrease as well.

“We can’t compete as a team because we need at least four and hope to get there before the season is over,” Doss said. “Individually we have big goals to improve and bring in some lower scores. This group is extremely coachable and they enjoy the challenges they face. So getting better is the main goal of the season.”

Juniors Autumn Payne and Rya Jackson return, joined by sophomore Bella Bacon.

Payne is a returning Bi-County Tournament medalist, taking second last year. The other two also are putting in the work.

“Rya has continued to improve over the summer working on her short game and Bella is in her second season developing a routine to help put herself in a great position this year,” Doss said.

A fairly tough schedule is in store for the Mustangs, including the Bi-County and several other three and four-team meets.

Home matches are contested at Rivercrest Golf Course and the season teed off
Aug. 5.
