Civic Band to perform Sunday

Posted

The Montgomery County Civic Band will perform “Gary’s Mix” at 3 p.m. Sunday in the gazebo at Lane Place.

Director Gary Ketchum has put together a play list of some of his favorite tunes.

As always the band will open the concert with the playing of the “Star Spangled Banner.” They will then play the “Footlifter March,” an authentic, tuneful and traditional band piece, and “Farandole,” a semi classical piece.

Other familiar tunes will be heard during the “Second American Folk Rhapsody,” which includes “Billy Boy,” “Skip to My Lou” and “Shenandoah.”

The band also will play the jaunty ragtime piece, “The Cat’s Pajamas.” Ketchum hints that the audience should listen for the “meows.”

The band will then play “Beech Spring,” a Sacred Harp tune, which is a tribute to the great American outdoors, and will wind down with “New York, New York.”

The hour-long concert will end the same way as they all do with children having the opportunity to direct the band during “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Free-will donations will be accepted.

The final performance of the 60th annual summer concert season is Aug. 4.
